We are all getting more health-conscious and try to include healthier and more nutritious foods in our every day diet. We are aware that we must avoid processed foods and added sugar. At the same time we need to eat more foods containing healthy fats and lean proteins. You may bee surprised by the fact that a lot of healthy foods can cause inflammation.

Foods that Cause Inflammation

  1. Yogurt

When it comes to yogurt, make sure you check its label. A lot of yogurt products have the same nutritional value as ice creams and are packed with fats and added sugar. Despite causing weight gain, sugar can also cause inflammation. In general, don’t buy yogurt that contains sugar. Choose probiotic or Greek yogurt instead.

  1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes belong to the same group as  green and red peppers as well as white potatoes, or members of a family of plants known as nightshades.  As long as you are not sensitive to solanine, tomatoes can be super tasty and harmless. However, if you are one of those sensitive to solanine, don’t consume tomatoes because it can lead to inflammation. This increases the risk of heart diseases, makes arthritic joints sore and promotes tumor growth.

Although it is considered as a healthier alternative to white bread, wheat can cause some health problems. Namely, wheat has been genetically modified to the extent that it contains only five percent of the unique protein. This has led to various allergies linked to inflammation.

  1. Rice

Different types of rice are nutritious , healthy and packed with health benefits. One of the not so healthy rice option is  highly processed white rice packed with refined carbohydrates. It has no nutritional value and it can cause inflammation.

  1. Nuts

Nuts are one of the most nutritious foods that are a great source of good fats. Unfortunately, people who suffer from osteoarthritis cannot enjoy their health benefits. This is because nuts contain histamine that attacks the joints and results in painful inflammation.

  1. Citrus Fruits

Most people don’t have any problem with citrus fruits, but there are some people who suffer from citrus allergies. Consuming citrus fruits can lead to inflammation which later contributes to the onset of chronic diseases.
