Doctors: Stop Feeding Your Kids Hot Dogs Immediately

Hot dogs are popular food among young people and they can be found anywhere: from festivals to different types of sport matches. However, we are all aware that they are not the healthiest option. If you are a parent you should stop buying hot dogs for your children.

Can you guess when is the period when hot dogs are consumed in large number? It’s the 4-the of July – on the America’s Independence Day. According to surveys more than 155 million hot dogs are consumed only on this particular day. This is concerning.

Doctors number the reasons why you should avoid giving your children hot dogs. And you should start doing this right at this very moment.

Hot dogs consummation is closely linked to the big number of children who suffer from leukemia. There is 9% higher risk of getting leukemia if kids eat more than a dozen hot dogs in a month.

The same research shows that there is also an increased risk of cancer for the child if the father of the child often consumed a big number of hot dogs before conceiving.

During the period of pregnancy if the mother consumes one or more hot dogs weekly, it can result in increased risk of a brain tumor for the baby.

All of these increased risks come from the nitrite additives that are used in hot dogs production in order to prevent botulism – food poisoning caused by a bacterium (botulinum) growing on improperly sterilized canned meats and other preserved foods – Wikipedia

During the process of cooking the hot dogs, the added nitrites join together with the amines from the meat and form a combination known as N-nitroso that is extremely harmful and it’s the same reason that causes cancer.
