According to statistics Americans enjoy drinking soda and consume it on a daily basis. Actually 25 % of all drinks sold in the US are soft drinks.

Almost one-third of Americans drink at least one sugar-laden soda or other sweetened drinks every day, federal health officials report.

Approximately 43 percent of US young adults, ages 18 to 24, drink at least one beverage with added sugar daily, according to a 2013 survey.

Drinking soda i.e. added sugar is associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

 

Soda and Osteoporosis

Caffeine in Cola soda interferes with calcium absorption and causes loss of calcium through urine. Phosphoric acid , also contained in Cola soda leads to a leakage of calcium out of bones.

As a conclusion, people who suffer from osteoporosis or other diseases which prevent the absorption of calcium are not recommended to consume soda.

Obesity

Did you know that a single can of sugar-laden soda gives you an extra pound of weight gain every month? You are considering diet soda ?

Because of its highly acidic content, soda damages Tooth enamel. Soda’s chemical composition is even more harmful than sugars added to candies and it’s not good for the health of your teeth.

The phosphoric acid in your favourite Cola can affect your urinary tract.

These changes go to the extent that eventually you will have your kidneys filled with stones. By consuming 12-ounce cans you actually increase the risk of forming kidney stones by 15 percent.

 

If you want to start avoiding soft drinks ,the solution has to start at home: Your kitchen should have beverages such as water, seltzer, 100 percent juices and unsweetened soy milk for family members to drink.You also have to train to replace highly sweetened and artificially sweetened drinks with simpler, healthier choices.
